Sponsored symposium: Fair Care for Every Child: Is Your Region Closing the Health Equity Gap in Neurofibromatosis Type 1? (Alexion, AstraZeneca Rare Disease)
Session programme
This symposium presented by Dr Ellie Day covers findings from 'Alone on Our NF1 Island', a landmark patient-led service evaluation examining care pathways for neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) patients across the UK which revealed widespread dissatisfaction with NF1 care. Dr Ellie Day, drawing on her unique perspective as both a Consultant Paediatrician and co-author of the study, will explore the key drivers of health inequity: fragmented care pathways, inadequate care coordination, limited specialist access, and insufficient education for families and healthcare professionals.
She will present practical strategies paediatricians can implement to address these disparities, including advocating for standardised pathways, improving multidisciplinary coordination, and improving education around NF1. Attendees will leave equipped with actionable strategies to champion health equity for children with NF1 in their own regions.
