Time slot
Tuesday 12 May 2026 - 13:05-13:35
Room
Pharmaceutical Theatre - Exhibition Hall
Session type
Mini-theatre session

Session programme

This session will explore key clinical red flags associated with neurometabolic disorders, equipping paediatricians with the knowledge to recognise when these conditions should be suspected in routine practice and which initial investigations to initiate. As therapeutic options continue to expand, timely and accurate diagnosis is increasingly critical to optimise patient outcomes.

Participants will have the opportunity to examine the current patient journey in depth, identify common sources of diagnostic delay, and discuss practical strategies to shorten the diagnostic odyssey and maximise treatment eligibility.

The session will provide actionable guidance, enabling attendees to:

  • recognise key clinical features that should prompt suspicion of a neurometabolic disorder
  • understand when further investigation is warranted and how to respond to early clinical concerns
  • identify appropriate first-line investigations and their role within the diagnostic pathway
  • apply practical insights to support earlier detection and more effective management in everyday clinical practice
