Professor Alan Emond, Emeritus Professor of Child Health, University of Bristol

Alan Emond is a clinical academic paediatrician, with an international reputation for multidisciplinary research in child health.  He holds the position of Emeritus Professor of Child Health at the University of Bristol, where he was director of the Centre for Child and Adolescent Health from 2003-2018. He founded this unique academic centre in 2003 as a multidisciplinary collaboration between Bristol University, the University of the West of England and the local NHS trusts. 
National leadership roles at the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health included chair of the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit (BPSU) from 2009-2013. and chair of the British Association of Community Child Health (BACCH) from 2005-2009. He was senior editor for the 5th edition of Health for All Children, leading a multidisciplinary group producing an evidence- based review of child health from 0-7 years which was published by OUP in 2019.  He was awarded the James Spence medal by the RCPCH in 2019 for his outstanding contribution to the advancement of knowledge in paediatrics and child health.
