Professor Sonia Saxena, Director of Child Health, Imperial School for Public Health

Professor Sonia Saxena is Professor of Primary care at Imperial College London and a practising GP in London. Her research over the past 30 years has explored how preventive primary care in early life can improve health of children and young people on later life.

She chairs the selection committee for doctoral fellowships and is a senior investigator for the National Institute for Health Research and Care.

As elected President for Child and Adolescent Health for the European Public Health Association she leads a network of over 4500 public health professionals to support public health efforts to improve child health across Europe. In 2025, she has cochaired the BMJ’s global commission on the Future of Academic Medicine.

Professor Saxena will be speaking at the morning plenary on Monday 11 May on Integration and innovation for future child health: a perspective from primary care.
